Kids Club Kash Puts Buying Local in Kids' Hands

The Locally Made Farmers Market in Beattyville is giving its youngest shoppers a new reason to get excited about visiting the market with the launch of the Little Locals Kids ClubThe new program kicked off with plenty of smiles, excitement, and hands-on fun as local children explored the market, participated in activities, and learned a little more about what it means to shop local. The Little Locals Kids Club was created to make a trip to the farmers market an experience just for kids while introducing them to local farmers, growers, makers, and small businesses.

One of the highlights of the program is FREE Kids Club Kash, which participating children can use at the farmers market. Instead of simply tagging along while the adults shop, kids get the opportunity to make purchasing decisions of their own. They can explore what vendors have available, decide how they want to spend their Kids Club Kash, and interact directly with the people who grow, make, and sell products in their community. It’s a simple activity with a bigger purpose: helping children begin to understand the value of supporting local businesses and local agriculture.

Little Locals can also participate in Farmers Market Bingo and a Scavenger Hunt, encouraging them to explore the market and pay attention to the products, people, and activities around them. Participating children are also entered into a weekly prize drawing, giving families another reason to return throughout the farmers market season.
The goal is to make the market a place children look forward to visiting while creating positive experiences around locally grown food, community involvement, and supporting their hometown.

Families who missed the kickoff can still participate! Parents and caregivers can bring their children to the Locally Made Farmers Market Friday after school or Saturday to register for the Little Locals Kids Club.
Kids can:

  • Register for the Little Locals Kids Club
  • Receive FREE Kids Club Kash
  • Complete Farmers Market Bingo and the Scavenger Hunt
  • Be entered into the weekly prize drawing
Whether they spend their Kids Club Kash on something tasty, discover something new during the scavenger hunt, or simply enjoy talking with vendors, each visit gives our Little Locals another opportunity to connect with their community.

Farmers markets are about much more than buying produce. They create opportunities for neighbors to gather, give small businesses and growers a place to sell their products, and keep more dollars circulating within the local community. By involving children at an early age, the Little Locals Kids Club is helping introduce the next generation to those same values.

The Little Locals Kids Club is made possible with support from Farmers State Bank, Beattyville Main Street, and Beattyville/Lee County Tourism
